Backing up Notability (to Box)

In order to back up your Notability files, you will need an account to store them on. We recommend the use of Box. Before proceeding, you must either create a box account or reset the password to your Box account if you do not know it. Once that account is ready, follow the steps below.

Turning on Auto-backup

  1. Tap  in the bottom library toolbar.
  2. Tap Auto-backup.
  3. Choose a cloud service.
  4. Notes will automatically back up in PDF format to the main folder.

If you want to move your notes back into Notability, follow the additional steps to change your backup format to Note. If you want them to be saved for use outside Notability, then you are done.

Changing Auto-backup’s file format

By default, auto-backup sends your notes to your backup service as PDF files. If you like, though, you can backup your notes in several other file formats.

  1. In Auto-backup’s settings, tap  to the right of your backup service’s name.
  2. Under the “Choose Format” section, tap the first row.
  3. Tap the row for the file format you would like to use:
  4. Note
      • A note will be backed up in Notability’s native “.note” file format.
      • This file format includes every kind of content in a note: audio, handwriting, typed text, sticky notes, images, web clips, figures—everything! All of those contents are fully editable when the note is imported back into Notability.
      • This file format also keeps your audio recordings linked to your content.
      • This is the easiest option for sharing notes with other people who use Notability.
